Dive Into this Remastered Classic Adventure: A Complimentary Demo for DQ7 Reimagined Debuts Soon.

Enthusiasts looking forward to the arrival of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined can get a head start too much longer. An highly anticipated trial experience is set to go live on Jan. 7, providing a sizable look into the game's beginning segments. Notably, all save data earned within this demo will be able to be imported directly into the complete game upon its February release.

Beyond Just a Simple Re-release: The Thorough Overhaul

Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined constitutes a ground-up reinterpretation of the seminal 2000 JRPG, originally released as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. In a significant step away from other series remakes, such as the recently released HD-2D iterations, this reimagining embraces a charming three-dimensional art style. Locales appear to look like detailed model sets, with protagonists having a whimsical chibi-esque design.

"Considering the 3DS remake, the main quest was remained quite extended. Therefore, we reached a determination that we wanted to streamline the story, [and] make this experience for contemporary players."

Significant Gameplay Changes & Modernizations

The creators has introduced a host of changes to streamline the classic gameplay loop. These include:

  • Expedited Overworld Encounters: Taking a cue from modern role-playing games, weaker monsters are now defeated directly on the field without entering a separate turn-based combat screen.
  • Adjustable Battle Speed: Players can speed up battle sequences to quickly power through less challenging encounters.
  • New Job Mechanics: A brand new job class has been added for this reimagining. Additionally, characters gain the capacity to take on a secondary vocation, greatly expanding customization possibilities.

Such refinements are designed to mitigate one of the original game's frequent criticisms: its daunting playtime. That original main quest was known to require over 100 hours to complete. The reimagined version was expressly structured to enhance progression and cut down on perceived repetition.
